Our electricity bill calculator makes it easy to see what a plan could actually cost you each month. No guesswork, no math—just a quick, clear estimate based on your home and usage.
Delivery charges (listed as TDU or TDSP fees) from your utility company are included in your monthly electricity bill, so we factor them into your estimate.
Your monthly bill is shaped by a mix of factors unique to your home and habits, including:
For example, consider the yearly kWh usage of common household appliances and devices to get an idea of how they may impact your electricity bill.
Appliance/Device | Yearly kWh | Use |
---|---|---|
3-ton Air Conditioner: | ~9380 | Use for 8 months 10hrs per day |
Washing Machine | 75-170 | 6 loads per week |
Clothes Dryer | 120-700 | 5 to 6 loads per week |
Dishwasher | 80-240 | ~4 loads per week |
Refrigerator | 300-700 | 24/7 – 365 |
Microwave Oven | 40-45 | Used 5 minutes per day |
Video Game Console | 25-30 | Used 2 hours per day |
Coffee Maker | 30-35 | Used 5 minutes per day |
Computer | 146-800 | 8 hrs per day |
Television (50 to 70 inches) | 125-300 | – |
Your electricity bill total is based on the amount of electricity you use, the rate you pay per kWh, and any additional fees from your electricity provider, like base charges and fees. The basic formula looks like this:
Monthly Cost = Usage (kWh) × Rate (¢/kWh) + Fees
For example:
1,200 kWh × $0.14 = $168
$168 + $20 fees = $188 Estimated Monthly Bill
The calculator provides an estimate meant for general informational purposes only. It’s based on the details you enter, along with average energy use for homes of a similar size and our current lowest-priced fixed-rate plan at 1,000 kWh. Your actual bill may differ depending on factors like your household’s energy habits, your home’s age, HVAC efficiency, and seasonal weather changes. The estimate includes TDU (Transmission and Distribution Utility) fees but doesn’t include taxes or one-time charges. It’s also limited to fixed-rate plans and doesn’t apply to usage-credit or time-of-use plans.
Yes. You don’t need to know your exact kWh usage to get an estimate. Just enter your ZIP code, and the calculator will display an average rate for your area. Then, add your home’s square footage, and we’ll estimate your typical energy usage based on similar homes.
If you live in a deregulated area of Texas, the rate shown in the calculator already includes utility delivery charges. If you’re outside a deregulated area, the calculator uses the average U.S. electricity rate, which does not include delivery charges. You can also enter your own rate for a more customized estimate.
You can lower your electricity usage by making simple changes like switching to LED bulbs, unplugging electronics when not in use, and only running full loads of laundry or dishes. Adjusting your thermostat a few degrees and sealing air leaks can also make a big difference in keeping your energy use (and bills) down.
